When Shelly walked in for her interview with then-governor of Texas, George W. Bush, she had already done dozens of similar interviews with him and other local politicians. This kind of thing was part of her daily routine as a journalist and she came to the meeting knowing, more or less, what to expect.  What she wasn’t prepared for was the future president to compliment her light violet purple suede penny loafers. “He made a comment, ‘I like those shoes’, and I laughed. He said ‘pretty good purple shoes, pretty good!’ and and we laughed together and I said ‘Thanks, Governor.’ And the next time there was a big group of reporters, calling to the governor, a situation where we all wanted that first question, he stopped and he looked in the crowd and he pointed at me. P.O.W.E.R.ful Celebrations and Congratulations to ALL of Us!

Oct 28, 2020

Congratulations are in order for all P.O.W.E.R. members. Since Fidelity launched the P.O.W.E.R. program January 1, 2018, we— together, and as individuals— have become an important line of business for the bank. Only three years ago Fidelity’s Chief Marketing Officer, Tammy O’Shea had a hunch: a business banking program catering specifically to the needs of women in business would take off. Since then, our community has proven her right. From the program’s early days, P.O.W.E.R. members have been intentional about supporting each other: buying products and services from  fellow P.O.W.E.R. members, learning from each other, and using the network to find mentorship and advice. We’ve formed a really nurturing community that includes not only members, but the amazing folks at Fidelity Bank who work with us. As a community, we’ve been around to support each other in tangible ways: on days of celebration and when gathering strength for rocky roads ahead. The narrative around business that many of us grew […]

Making it Work: The P.O.W.E.R. of Hope & Unity

Sep 10, 2020

Fidelity Bank’s slogan is “Here for Good”. The double meaning is intentional of course: we are here to be a force for good in our community, and we are committed to being here for the long haul. This motto is true for the P.O.W.E.R. program as well, and we know that in order to live up to these goals we must be nimble, flexible and capable of making adjustments in response to changing community needs— and fast. The past few months have given us ample opportunity to show how agile we are, as we quickly and efficiently responded to COVID-19. In fact, we did such a good job that the P.O.W.E.R. program has actually grown during this period of chaos: we recently hit our milestone 1000th member!  We’re exceptionally proud of everyone on our team who worked so hard, and made this accomplishment possible. Our team came through to provide help for our community when help was so desperately needed. […]
